From now onwards, this platform will be use for light-hearted short Articles related to dwarf hamsters on monthly intervals and Promotions of Accessories.

You probably have read (if not), wonder when this cute little furbies was discovered? And who was their ancestor? Please read on if you interested to find out more. I promise you this will be a short introduction, without too much of technical dry information.

Long long time ago, people used to hate rats (till now people still does) because they are often being associated with germs, diseases and especially harmful to farmers etc and more. Why suddenly talk about rats? Because modern rats are ancestor of today's hamsters and they belong to the same family. That's Right!

Do you know hamsters belong to the rodent family which have been considered originated in Asia (our location!) Rodent first appear in the fossil record at the end of the Paleocene (no idea what is that) and earliest Eocene in Asia and North America, about 54 million years ago (wow!) were descended from Anagalids (picture below) which gives rise to (blah blah and so on...) alright shall stop here. Google for more information if you are not afraid of the technical stuffs.

(Ancestor of Rodents: Anagalids)

But today our focus will be on Russian Winter White, which is relatively newcomers in the pet kingdom.

There were no Russian Winter White until 1960s, when scientist first discovered them and classified them as a sub-type till only in recent years that Russian Winter White was classified as its own separate species. Explains why because they are so closely related to Campbell Dwarf Russian.

Currently, there are 3 variations (colours) available which is the Normal Winter White, Pearl Winter White (first appear in 1988) and Sapphire Winter White also same time. Cross breeding of Pearl and Sapphire also give you additional variety : Sapphire Pearl! (so let your imagination run wild).

And lastly, there is an age old interesting legend associated with rodent: Pied Piper of Hamelin. You can google if for more information!

Interesting folklore huh.

Hope this article is interesting for you or open up another perspective to this little rodent.

Contact Us

Contact Us!

Call or SMS

96996687

Email: hamsters.affair@gmail.com
